Forest Recovery Summit

Across the country, practitioners, researchers, Indigenous organizations, funders, and others are working to restore forests while facing growing and increasingly complex challenges, often in isolation. At the same time, the need for forest recovery is rising due to wildfire, climate change, invasive species, pests, political and economic shifts, and a rapidly evolving funding landscape.

These challenges make forest recovery readiness essential. The capacity we build today, including people, knowledge, skills, supply chains, relationships, and investment, will determine how effectively we can respond when recovery is needed. Effective recovery also strengthens resilience for forests, communities, the economy, and Canada as a whole.

The Summit is a chance to come together and ask: what becomes possible when we work together?

Over two days of facilitated conversations, storytelling, and workshops, and participants will draw on the knowledge in the room to identify shared challenges, align on priorities for collaboration, and define next steps to strengthen Canada’s readiness for forest recovery and future resilience. Together, we’ll build a foundation for a national forest recovery community - one that reflects the breadth of work happening across the country and helps amplify its impact for years to come. ·       Tree seed forecasters, collectors, and geneticists

·       Tree nursery operators and stock specialists

·       Forest recovery researchers, academics, students and innovators

·       Local, municipal, provincial and federal policy makers

·       Systems thinkers and innovators with experience in restoration

If you don’t see your role or organization reflected here, you’re still encouraged to indicate your interest and share the perspective you would bring to the conversation.

The scale and complexity of forest recovery ahead calls for ambitious thinking and collective action. Bridging the gap between goals and implementation will depend on the knowledge, experience and ideas of those doing the work on the ground. This is why the Forest Recovery Summit will take place in person and feature a series of highly interactive workshops and facilitated conversations. Attendees are encouraged to arrive ready to listen, share, discuss, think big and long-term.

To support meaningful dialogue and participation in this highly interactive format, attendance will be limited. Invitations will be extended with the goal of creating a diverse and representative group of voices from across the forest recovery community. Please register your interest to be considered for participation.

If invited to register, the cost of registration for the working sessions (1:00-5:00 p.m. on November 25, and 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on November 26) will be $75. Tickets for the evening social (6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on November 25) are $25; dinner will be provided with drinks available for purchase.

We recognize that small and/or remote and/or Indigenous-led organizations play a critical role in the forest recovery system and that the costs of in-person participation can be a barrier. If cost would limit your ability to attend, please indicate this on the Indicate Your Interest form. If invited to register, you will also receive a form to request travel support funding.

Travel support funding requests will be reviewed based on available funding, geographic representation, anticipated costs, and the goal of supporting broad participation across the forest recovery community.
