2 Billion Trees Program
The Government of Canada's 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program provides financial support to organizations to plant trees to tackle the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change.
What is 2BT?
In 2021, the Government of Canada launched the 2 Billion Trees (2BT) program to support new and incremental tree planting projects across Canada to help meet the country’s climate change mitigation commitments while also restoring wildlife habitat and ecosystem services for communities.
The 2BT program has been a valuable resource for many of Canada’s tree planting organizations including non-profits, Indigenous communities, the private sector, and different levels of government to create and restore forests increasingly impacted by our changing climate, wildfires, invasive species, pests, and pathogens.
The program may fund up to 50%* of eligible tree planting project costs, making it one of the most significant investments in tree planting in Canada to date.
*and up to 100% for Indigenous applicants
